A trip to the Cannes Film Festival. In the crowds, it took us no time at all to spot an important person!

Cannes. Near the Red Carpet. How photographers get tall. A trick we’ve known for years!

Yes. It’s like this every day on the French Riviera. Here’s just another ordinary movie star in Cannes…trying to keep her hair from blowing around.

When you grocery shop on the Riviera, you’re almost always expected to show up at the caisse with your produce already priced. Better know your pomme from your poire. The pictures help.

If you really use your imagination, and you are hungry, the top of a well prepared Croque-Monsieur looks a bit like this chair back at one of Nice’s best people watching cafes. Le Grand Cafe de Lyon is far enough up Medicin that even when there are tourists there, there is always lots of room for the loyal locals. And, on the snack menu, a very fine Croque-Monsieur, the sandwich invented about 100 years ago with bread, ham and a golden, crusty toasted layer of Gruyere. This place does it right. Cafe Noissette, friendly service and a welcoming ambience. The chairs are comfortable, too.

Window. Nice. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

What every guidebook about Nice gets wrong. THIS is where to get the best house made gelato, the best house made waffle cone and the best gelato service on the Côte d’Azur! You always hear about Fenocchio’s on Place Rosetti with its huge crowds and 84 flavors. You rarely hear about their brusque servers or the average gelato. At Azzurro, the selections are nearly as broad…and better. Tastes to try are welcome. And, it’s all within scooping distance of the other one. Go to Place Rosetti in Vieux Nice, face the church, look to your left and stop at Gelateria Azzurro. Be sure to meet Celine, one of the owners, and have a similar discussion to the one Diane is having here about the difference in taste between the Violet Gelato and the new Violet Sorbet. Diane is one of their official tasters! You can even “Like” them on Facebook, but you can’t lick them there.
