Sandwiched in Between the Human Chicken Contest and Cat Judging…
…we had the trick pigs!
Denver’s first ever County Fair had to compete with the Dragon Boat Festival and the IKEA opening. At least we had choices. The fair was, in fact, so Denver-like that one would think they just picked up the People’s Fair, moved it indoors under harsh flourescent lights, added some chicken coops and charged admission. Oh, and bunny rabbits and blue ribbons.
$10 a person to get in the building. $8 to park. $3.50 for a bottle of Aquafina. $8 for a Coors Light. Would you like some Funnel Cake with that?
After a walk through the Art Pavilion, the Fashion Pavilion, the Holistic Pavilion, and the Green Pavilion, we reached the Animal Pavilion. That’s where the action was. Pigs doing tricks, walking around, honking horns and impersonating(?) Stevie Wonder. Highlight of the day. And, with a second show later that evening, clearly more excitement to come.
Once the pigs quit hamming it up, there was nothing left but to exit through the Freak Show Pavilion. And, you knew they were Freaks because they wore name tags that said “Freak”, presumably for easier entrance to the building. But, alas, the Freaks were on a Break.
Maybe this should move to Aurora…instead of the Stock Show.
