Ever hopeful for good weather, Denver by the Slice has a few suggestions for the Memorial Day weekend.
Have some ice cream or gelato at Little Man, over the bridges, up the hill in the big milk can of a building behind the Olinger’s sign. Umm!
Go another couple of blocks to Gallop for brunch and Denver’s finest Bloody Mary.
Or, stay Downtown and get all arty at the Downtown Arts Festival today through Monday at the Pavilions, 16th Street Mall between Welton and Tremont. All media, 130 fine artists. Browse and buy!
Mix in some music. Yes, it’s that time again. Denver Day of Rock! See the details and schedule here for over 20 bands at 5 stages throughout Downtown (2 at Skyline Park), all starting at 2:30 Saturday afternoon. Some will be very loud. Pick your favorites. Day of Rock is put on by, and benefits, Concerts for Kids!
For more sublime musical sounds, take note that the Downtown Denver Partnership has put out those street pianos again, up and down the mall. It’s called “Keys to the City” and artists and piano tuners donate to the effort. Luckily, on occasion, someone really good sits down to play!
At Union Station you can tour the mock-up rail car…just like the one you’ll take from DUS to DIA in a few years. Representatives are there to answer your questions…like “where does my bike go?”
Then, stop by Margs Taco Bistro on Wynkoop between 15th and 16th. Have a traditional Margarita…and a less traditional Caprese Taco. Right on the street. Good people who also bring you the Smiling Moose just next door.
And, while hoping for good weather, hope for some good baseball. The “best record in baseball” of last month has morphed into a below-.500 also ran and it has not been pleasant to watch. Hope, hope, hope and perhaps the sun can shine on our Rocks!
Oh, and take Monday off. Apparently everyone else will.
