Birds of Paradise in the Jardin Espagnol, Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, St-Jean, Cap-Ferrat, Côte d’Azur, France.

During World War II, Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, built over 100 years ago, was abandoned for a few years and the gardens were entirely neglected. In fact, all of St-Jean, Cap-Ferrat was evacuated and the entire area was mined. After the war, the entire grounds was lovingly and laboriously restored and today provides an historical and beautiful sanctuary well worthy of a visit. This guy’s still there, keeping an eye on things!

Holiday. Victory in Europe Day. And, in Menton, the three pigeons showed up anyway to take their usual perch atop the statue in front of City Hall.

In Menton, just a short train ride east from Nice, if you are having trouble reading the menu, you can always ask for a table near the floor lamp.

What you can’t see is what we took up the hill for lunch, about a 20 minute walk from our apartment and enjoyed on a park bench…Pan Bagnat Thon avec Vue!

It is the First of May, Labor Day in much of the world. We heard that it is snowing in Denver.
